In 2014 I found an ad in Craigslist for a warehouse trying to find a home for 20 pallets of records. Of course with absolutely no place to store them and no idea what I was going to do with them I answered the ad and made the purchase. It turned out that the records were just tossed into these pallet boxes and a lot of them were damaged.
I ended up saving about 60,000 records from those 20 pallets. And of those 60,000 records, I was able to determine (by visually inspecting each) that about 10,000 of those could still be played and were sellable. The other 50,000 I needed to come up with a plan for. So I did what anybody would do that was having a creative mental block and starting trolling Pinterest for ideas.
I noticed that there were quite a few people “upcycling” vinyl records into some pretty cool stuff so I started experimenting with some of the vinyl. After about 3 months of trial and error I came up with a product set and started posting items on Etsy to test the waters. That went over well so I entered a couple other marketplaces, created a website and here we are!
Since this started I’ve refined my craft, came up with numerous other idea for repurposing vinyl records and am still having fun and creating today. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
Our mission is to create and to share our journey as we explore the endless possibilities. The records that I am saving and repurposing would’ve otherwise been dumped into a landfill never to be seen again. Hopefully this will in a way keep some of this musical history alive and living for some time to come.
